SIMON X. FREDERICK
A screenwriter, director and producer from Winterfell. Initially working solely in production and development, whilst teaching myself the craft of screenwriting. But after landing five script commissions, one of which was produced and is set for a May release (the sci-fi thriller ‘Voidance’), I’ve transitioned into primarily focusing on a writing career. With the goal of writing bold and exciting films and TV. I particularly love crime, thriller, horror and comedy. But have written a little of everything and hope to continue to do so.
My work is always character driven, but often posing a larger question about society when exploring that individual. I find genre, as well as travelling to the past, future and new worlds, is an exciting way to Trojan horse these ideas into both commercial and art driven film and TV. So I am constantly challenging myself to find that lofty ideal, even when beginning with a simple concept. As a director, I'd love to give the younger version of me and my friends, faces on screen that feel familiar to us. But rather than only telling stories on screen where we are suffering due to our differences, I want those differences to be part of the nuance of the character, not always the plot.
After winning the 2024 Stage 32 Feature Screenwriter Fellowship, then gaining a mentor in Val Mcleroy, we have since developed a feature thriller script that I am aiming to direct (semi finalist in 2025’s Outstanding Screenplays competition). Based in my hometown, it explores a character getting sucked into an underworld of conspiracy theorists.

I also organise and run a quartly networking event for filmmakers, actors and crew. Aiming to bring this sparse city's industry just a little bit closer by creating a community. And fuel the love of creating art.
